Gallery

Welcome to our gallery.

Hopefully the following few pictures will give you a flavour of the beauty, tranquility and sheer relaxation that visiting us in Somerset brings.

Please do ask us for any clarifications...

The barn is very quiet and you are more likely to be woken by the birds that anything else. Taken from the back bedroom, it looks out over the property’s rear garden) on the left) and the paddocks (on the right).

You are welcome to also use the top garden if you wish….or indeed wander around the paddocks.  The guest patio adjoins and overlooks the top garden and is beautifully sunny - especially in the evening.

This patio is for your private use - it is a delightful sun-trap and is lovely to sit up and watch the stars.  There is a now a large log burner* in the corner you can see (burner not shown in this photo).  The patio has lights so that you can sit out and enjoy the calm, quiet Somerset evenings - see next picture.

* We can provide a small basket of logs to start you off.  Further logs may be available to purchase from us subject to availability or they can be bought in nets from the local farmer's store.

The patio area has lights, a gas BBQ, a cast iron wood stove as well as the table, chairs and sun umbrella…there is an outside mains socket as well.  During the summer it is a beautiful place to sit out and have a meal and a glass of wine, or whatever.

The Barn is self contained with a private entrance…the French windows open and add to the air of space...

The guest patio is just outside the Barn across our own private path/track to the paddocks.

We pride ourselves on giving our livestock a great life whilst they are with us (Apr - Mid Aug).   The pigs are very friendly and quite ‘cheeky’ and children love to see them mess about.

Please note that we are a small-holding and, whilst we love to let the children meet and feed the animals, we are not an animal park or farm per se

We keep pigs and sheep through the summer months (Apr - Mid Aug).  All of our guest’ children seem to enjoy the experience especially getting close up when perhaps they have not had that opportunity in the past.

Please note that we are a small-holding and, whilst we love to let the children meet and feed the animals, we are not an animal park or farm per se

Whilst they are here during the spring/summer months (Apr - Mid Aug), the sheep are really quite tame…

Please note that we are a small-holding and, whilst we love to let the children meet and feed the animals, we are not an animal park or farm per se

Unfortunately we have recently lost our dear Labrador Haricot who was extremely good with the children - this little girl played for literally hours with Haricot.  Indeed, some families used to come back just to see her and her mother.

We have left this in as it is such a nice picture and illustrates the rural, relaxed nature of your stay in the Barn.

The paddocks are great for the kids to let off steam, kick a ball about or play rounders….the horse jumps shown here are packed away..he’s too old for that sort of messing around now!

The village of Galhampton is small, very friendly with many beautiful places to explore - for those who like to jog, the ‘circuit’ around the village, of which this lazy lane is part, is about a mile.  There are many cross-country paths to explore.

Cadbury castle is an old medieval fort in South Cadbury just down the road.

It is lovely walk up to and around the top and the various old ramparts.  The Camelot pub (see also Pubs/Food) is near the bottom and is a great place to stop for a beer and a sandwich/meal...

Notwithstanding there are some beautiful places to visit around the area, you don’t always have to get in to the car to see them.

There are loads of walks straight from the village where the beautiful views open out in front of you; there are walks of all sizes and different terrain, all of them beautifully quiet, some with pubs you can get to half way!

This is the church in Yarlington, the next village over where there is also the ‘Stag’s Head’ pub.  If in need a break from the excellent Galhampton pub, or want a walk before lunch on a Sunday, Yarlington is about a 20 mins stroll across the fields.

Pilchard is our daughter's horse and like many of us believes he can still do the things he could do a few years ago.  He is extremely friendly and in no way a danger if normal equine rules are followed (i.e. he doesn’t kick, bite or chase people).

In any case he is always either fenced in a paddock or locked in his stable in the yard - so there is no obligation even to meet him ! (Bella (on the left) has moved on).  Children often like to feed him a carrot or two or even help brush him down.

This is taken from of the many footpaths around the village.  It reflects how rural and quiet the village is and just shows Galhampton in the snow.

Somerset being so south doesn’t not normally attract the snow, but on the heavy winters even we cannot escape it.

It makes the village even quieter and the Barn more homely….especially after a walk where you can sit and enjoy tea and crumpets around the cast iron fire (electric) - or a beer and a bite to eat around the fire in the pub!.

The snow when it comes, gives the Barn and the gardens a enhanced peaceful and snug feel - somewhere to really cosy down and relax.
