Castle Cary is a small, attractive and old country town situated some 2 miles from Galhampton (where we are) and 24 miles south of Bath. It lies on the edge of rolling countryside between the Somerset Levels to the west and the high ridgeline of Penselwood to the east, halfway between the Mendip Hills and the Blackmore Vale. There is the main Paddington to Penzance railway line that runs about a mile to the north.

The old part of Castle Cary, which is still the town centre and contains buildings like the Market House, the Round House and the old George Inn, runs along the foot of steep, grassy Lodge Hill, below where the castle used to stand.

Castle Cary has loads of shops that sell traditional produce and does not suffer from ‘city prices’.  The are a range of coffee/tea rooms, eateries and pubs.  It really is the Town that has not be spoilt by time.

There is a weekly  market on Tuesdays that sells fruit & veg plus other local produce - it is small but well worth the visit.
